National Vocation Awareness Week, celebrated November 3-9, 2024, is an annual week-long celebration in the U.S. Catholic Church. The week is dedicated to promoting and inspiring vocations to the priesthood, diaconate, and consecrated life. The first National Vocations Awareness Week began in 1976 at the direction of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops. Over the years, the week fell at different points in the calendar year until 2014, when the first full week of November was selected.
This year, the Diocese of Spokane celebrated the week by producing the Dante’s Inferno video series. The videos, inspired by the hit YouTube series Hot Ones, featured interviews with a diocesan priest, a religious sister and a married couple while eating progressively spicier hot wings.
At the end of the week, the annual diocesan Vocations Summit was hosted again in Spokane. The Office of Vocations gathered vocations promoters and parish leaders from across the diocese for a day of prayer and equipping. The summit was hosted at St. Peter in Spokane and emphasized laying a strong foundation of personal prayer and relational ministry for fostering vocations. Talks taught practicals in prayer and how to invest in other people’s lives.
